Louise Marie - Antwerp

design of a curtain wall with significant thermal dilatation

Antwerp houses a new project: Louise Marie. Eye-catcher is the curtain wall which connects both residential buildings and limits the wind action for the space in between.

The curtain wall is supported by both buildings and two central concrete columns. Due to their rather massive character, the latter illustrate significant thermal dilatations which are not followed by the neighbouring buildings. As a result, the curtain wall needs to be designed accounting for these thermal effects.

In addition to glass composition, vitroplena also defined the requirements for the curtain wall profiles and controlled them for the applied sections, in order to make sure the curtain wall is able to follow the thermal dilatations and the glass remains in the rebates.
