vitroplena, Ghent University and Fischer GmbH joined forces in an ongoing 2-year research project with the goal of developing structural adhesive connections between glass and concrete.

To present the positive outcomes and feasibility of such connections to the outer world, a prototype of a glass-concrete bridge was built and exhibited on the GlassTec 2024 trade fair at Düsseldorf, Germany. The bridge is composed of two concrete staircases glued in between two glass panels and an architectural concrete floor deck glued in between two horizontal glass plies. The sandwich deck is supported by two glass beams. To realise a balustrade, 2 vertical glass panels were glued against the sides of the sandwich floor deck.

The prototype was very well received at the trade fair and now serves as a basis for the further development of products and applications.
